Here is some good (and confusing!) news for the day from Walgreens! Walgreens has made a major change to the Walgreens Balance Rewards points system. Up until now you could NOT earn points when you redeemed points at the register. (Example: You use 1,000 points to pay for something for $1, you could not get the 10 Everyday Points that you potentially would have earned if you didn’t use that 1,000.) Now you WILL earn points on some of your purchase when you spend points. The new rule is this:
You will earn points on the portion of your purchase for which you did not redeem points. Not clear what that means? Yeah, you’re not alone, so let’s go to some examples. Snickers Crispers are hypothetically on sale for $3 with $3 Register Rewards back. You have 1,000 points that you would like to use to help pay for the purchase. It would look like this
Snickers Crispers Bags $3
Use 1,000 points (from previous transactions)
Pay $2, Get $3 RR and 20 Everyday Points (since the $1 you paid for in points no longer counts towards this)
Final Price: $.02 Moneymaker
Or
Buy $30 in Huggies Diapers products, Get 10,000 points and you have 5,000 points that you’d like to spend on the purchase:
Buy 3 Huggies Diapers $10 each ($30)
Use 3 $2 coupons from somewhere
Also use 5,000 points (from previous transactions)
Pay $19, Get 10,000 points from the deal and 250 Everyday Points (since the $5 you paid in points no longer counts towards this)
Final Price: $8.75
These are just examples of what you can expect to see, but hopefully it’s a bit clearer! You can read more about Balance Rewards Points here.
