Well, this is unfortunate. McDonald’s has issued a voluntary recall on all of the Shrek Forever After glasses after learning that the paint on the outside of the glasses contains cadmium. Cadmium is a heavy metal that many Chinese manufacturer’s have substituted for lead in their products.
The following is a portion of the statement that McDonald’s released on it’s website:
“To be clear, the glassware was evaluated by an independent third-party laboratory, accredited by the CPSC, and determined to be in compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements at the time of manufacture and distribution. However, in light of the CPSC’s evolving assessment of standards for consumer products, McDonald’s determined in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After glassware is appropriate.“
McDonald’s will give more information on returns and refunds on on their website Tuesday, June 8. I’m guessing they’re trying to come up with their best strategy for their millions of returns!
Consumers may visit the recall website or call 800-244-6227 between 10AM-6PM EST for more information.
In the meantime, please take your McDonald’s glasses out of rotation and put them somewhere your children can’t reach them!
A special thank you to the Anonymous commenter who have me a head’s up about this recall last night.
