**UPDATE – Lindsey left a comment saying that the customer service rep that she spoke with said that a gift card could be used for this deal. People who call are being told both stories. I think the bottom line is that your mileage may vary with a phone call, but we’ll have to see what happens. If you do go through with the gift card, be prepared to fight your case down the road if it is denied. We really won’t know until people start getting their rebates back. Thanks for letting me know Lindsey!**
The $50 Sears rebate is not as exciting as we thought it was a few days ago. I was just reading that Sears will not honor the $50 gift card as a $50 purchase for the rebate. They consider a gift card a “reward” and will not grant a rebate for goods that are purchased with a reward.
This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, since $50 should be $50 (you are laying out cash to purchase the card!), but Sears and Kmart are part of the same company and we have seen a few goofy policies show up with each (remember those disastrous $10/$10 coupons with each store?).
Anyway, the bottom line is that you cannot make your purchase with the $50 gift card from CVS. You CAN still order through Ebates and make 4% back, though!!
