Those of you guys who are on Facebook read that I had issues with the Benadryl deal at Walgreens today. My Register Reward did not print when I used the $5/2 coupon and a $2.50 RR from a previous transaction. In my case, what finally worked was using no coupons at all. I can’t tell you how shocked I was (and how pleased the manager was!) when this happened, since this is a common “reason” that our Register Rewards don’t print in the first place. The biggest frustration of this situation is not that the RR doesn’t print with the coupon, but that it is validating the “explanation” that the Walgreens employees and managers give when a RR doesn’t print. We may now run into more of this down the road.
After I got home from my shop, I started to do a little research into what was going on. Here’s what I found out: the $5/2 Benadryl, et al coupon is being read by the Walgreens system as a Register Reward. Since we all know that RR at Walgreens don’t roll, there is no RR printing when you use the coupon.
Here are two suggestions:
1. If you have a REALLY nice Walgreens, pay your $9.98 in cash for the transaction and ask if they can refund you the difference in the coupon afterward. I’ve had to do this when I’ve legitimately forgotten a coupon before and some managers don’t mind at all. You can even explain what is happening and why you’re asking. Hopefully they’ll be receptive.
2. **UPDATE – I tried this and it did not work** I read that if the cashier enters the numbers on the coupon MANUALLY the RR will print. Ask your cashier not to scan the coupon, but to enter the numbers by hand. This may work, but I haven’t tried this, so I can’t be sure.
I am going to try to go tomorrow, but if you go, I’d love for you to let me know what happens! Good luck!
