Have you ever seen those coupons in the CVS or Walgreens ad that says “Earn $25 for your next New or Transferred prescription?” These are little pieces of happiness as far as I’m concerned.
We are always filling prescriptions around here. You probably don’t realize it, but you probably are too. If you have kids, you get Amoxicillin regularly. If you have health issues you may need to have a dosage adjusted. I realize that these days many insurances require mail order pharmacy participation, but most have a 3 month grace period. This is where the money is made.
Walgreens and Target will only accept coupons printed by them. Many other pharmacies will accept competitor coupons as well as their own. CVS, Dominick’s (UPDATE – Dominick’s no longer takes competitor coupons), and Kmart are among these stores. And don’t forget – Dominick’s accepts expired coupons!
Sometimes you will find these coupons in the paper, sometimes online, and sometimes (if you’re lucky like my grandma!) they will pop out of the magic coupon machine at CVS. Do yourself a favor and keep these coupons! Don’t throw them away.
If you have a “New prescription” coupon, start the prescription at that store. The next month have it transferred to CVS (or any other pharmacy that has a coupon or accepts competitor coupon). The next month send it to your mail order. Then start again with something new!
You’ll be surprised how fast it all adds up. The store is happy and you are happy. Everyone wins!
