Walgreens is a little tricky these days because their rewards program is new and may not be around much longer. It’s not entirely clear what they are doing with it yet, so I’m going to base this post on what we KNOW will work right now. I’ll update anything that comes up as I see it happen.
There are some great tools that will help you get free/cheap things at Walgreens.
The first is the Register Reward (RR). A RR is a CAT coupon that will print out of the machine at the end of your transaction. It is a manufacturer’s coupon and good on any future purchase of the stated amount or more. It will expire 2 weeks from the date of purchase.
My favorite thing about RR is that they are good at Jewel. Remember, they are manufacturer’s coupons! They are not Walgreen’s store coupons. I haven’t verified if other stores will take them, but they should. If you try it, please let me know! They are no longer accepted at Jewel.
Many cashiers will look at you funny if you try to use the RR anywhere but Wags. Just make sure to explain nicely that it is a manufacturer’s coupon and ask if they are willing to try scanning it. It will work. These coupons are good only at Wags and expire at the end of the month. You can find them at the front of the store by the sale flyers. I do not know if they will have another booklet like this next month. The rumor is that they may go back to the EasySaver catalog (keep your fingers crossed!), but that’s not confirmed yet. (they have as of 2013!)
Here is an example for how to use your Register Rewards:
For example, this month Neosporin has a RR deal attached. Buy 2, get $4 in RR.
So, you would buy 2 for $7.98
Use 2 .50 coupons from 8/2SS to make your total $6.98
Then you will give your coloring book coupon of $2 (will take it off each!) to make your total $2.98
Pay $2.98 + tax and get back $4 in RR.
So basically you’ve made a dollar and you have 2 Neosporin tubes!
As things change I will update you, but these are your best tools to date!
