The “rumor” that we talked about a few weeks ago is coming to fruition. Walgreens is launching a pilot test for their own loyalty cards this week in select areas (Richmond VA, Kansas City MO, and Portland OR). Residents of these areas will be asked to sign up for a card to earn points back on their purchase. 10 points will be earned for every $1 spent, 100 points for each prescription, and 300 points for each 90-Day prescription.
Points may be redeemed for various different options:
2000 points will get you a $5 Walgreens gift certificate
3000 points and higher will get you gift cards/certificates to many other locations (Amazon, AMC Theaters, The Children’s Place, Olive Garden, TGI Friday’s, and many many more)
If this loyalty card is a success (which I’m guessing it will be), we will probably see Register Rewards come to an end. If we get cash back, it will likely be in the form of credit to our card somehow.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Register Rewards. They can be such a pain to use at Walgreens when you are a couponer and I’m not a fan of the fact that they expire so quickly. BUT, they are fabulous to use at stores like Jewel, who take competitor manufacturer’s coupons. I’m not exactly sure where I stand on this program – especially since most of us don’t spend much there out of pocket! What do you think?
(Thanks i heart wags!)
