I had to stop at a drug store today to pick up some more batteries for my wireless mouse (is it trying to tell me something?), so I thought I’d try to find some Bayer Meters in the process. I figured that because of the $5 moneymaker it would be a bit hard, so I made a few calls first. Everyone had them in stock! Guys – RUN (don’t walk) to your nearest Walgreens to make an easy $5 with your Bayer coupon from 10/25!
I did have some trouble at the second Walgreens I went to, though, so I wanted to highlight this shop in case you get caught in the same situation. I went to two locations because I don’t like to pillage one and leave nothing for anyone else. Karma, baby.
Here’s what I did
Wags #1/Transaction #1
1 Bayer 2 Glucose Meter
I used
1 “Up to $30” coupon (manually reduced to $14.99)
Final Price: $.34 (all tax)
I got $5 RR
Total Cost: I made $4.66
Wags #2/Transaction #1
1 8 pk AAA batteries
1 Halloween clearance window cling ($.05 filler!)
I used
1 $.75 Duracell coupon from 11/1 P&G
1 $5 RR from previous transaction
Final Price: $.91
Total Cost: $5.91
Wags #2/Transaction #2
Exactly the same as Wags #1/Transaction #1 (Bayer Meter, I made $4.66)
This last shop should have proceeded just as smoothly as the first transaction, but it didn’t. When I gave the pharmacy cashier the coupon, she took $3 off and charged me $12.34. I explained that the coupon was for any amount up to $30. She then told me that she wasn’t allowed to not charge me anything, that she’d at least have to charge me a penny because the coupon wouldn’t go through. I said somewhat shyly (I didn’t want to be rude at all – I wanted this to work out in my favor!), “Really? I’ve never had that problem with this coupon before.” She then got annoyed with me and told me that I’d have to wait while she read the coupon.
She read it and spent the next few moments mumbling that this wasn’t going to work. I stood by and said nothing. She cancelled the order, rang it up again, rang the coupon and told me that she couldn’t enter it for $30. I explained (as politely as I could) that she would just enter the $14.99 cost of the meter (nothing more) and that I would owe $.34. She entered the number and I gave her the $.34 I had been holding. She bagged my stuff and sent me on my way, not looking at me again. I then had to stand there for a second until my CAT printed and ask her twice for it. She was not a happy camper!
I wanted to point this out because this may happen to you. It has got to be frustrating for an employee when the customer thinks they know more, and even more frustrating when the customer is right! Just be as nice as you can and hold your ground. YOU are right in this situation. You aren’t scamming anyone and are following the coupon specifications appropriately. Hang in there!
So, after all was said and done, I got batteries, two glucose meters to donate, a window cling that may go into the garage sale, and an extra $3.41 that I’ll use towards the current CAT deal at Jewel. I’m good with that!
