With two little kids and two busy adults in my household, we go through a lot of dishes. I do my best to reuse dishes when I can, but it’s almost impossible to keep dirty dishes to a great minimum. That being the case, my husband and I are constantly washing.
Over the last few years, I’ve done my best to pick up cheap and free dish soap and dish detergent as often as I can. One of the products that I pick up most often for free is the Dawn Dish Soap with the $1 Dawn coupon from the Home Made Simple booklets. This is great stuff. It cleans well and quickly and never leaves a residue.
This afternoon, I was rinsing out an empty jar of Raspberry Preserves so that I could recycle the glass, but I couldn’t get the sticky out or get my hand inside to scrub it with a sponge. I poured a little Dawn inside and let it sit for about 10 minutes. When I rinsed the soap out, all of the jam residue poured right out and left me a clean glass jar. THAT is the kind of work I need my soap to do for me. I don’t have time for it not to.
As much as we wash our dishes by hand, we also end up using our dishwasher about every other day. I think it’s fair to say that some detergents are better than others. I recently had the opportunity to try these Cascade ActionPacs and I liked them! Other than the fact that one exploded inside the bag (so I was down one – bummer!), they did some great work on my dishes.
I do try to pre-wash my dishes a bit, but I don’t do too much. It feels like a waste of water if I am about to put them through a wash cycle anyway. Well, that and I have a naive assumption that all of my products will work extremely well regardless of how much food residue I leave on the plate. Or is it that I’m just lazy? Whatever the case, our dishes are usually dirty when they go into the washer. The Cascade cut through all of that mess. I saw no spots on my glasses and the pots and pans were extremely clean. I also think that there was a faint “clean” smell in the dish washer, which I really like.
With the Super Bowl coming up later, I know that many of you are going to be snacking on things like wings, pizza, and fries. If you’re looking to cut through the mess, give Casade and Dawn a shot. They worked for me!
**Fine Print- I was given a bottle of Dawn and bag of Cascade to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post. All of the opinions above are my own.
