Jewel-Osco has a bunch of fun things in the work for us this summer, starting with this great new announcement from Supervalu:
“Today JEWEL-OSCO has outlined plans for a significant price reduction to begin on thousands of items in key categories in its stores. With 180 locations and more than 113 years serving our local communities, JEWEL-OSCO remains committed to being Chicagoland’s premier neighborhood grocery store. Specifically, the price reductions will be noticed in dairy, bakery (Bake Shop), deli (Chef’s Kitchen), liquor, beer and wine; ice cream and frozen novelties and in the cereal categories. Our shoppers will notice exciting changes like these across the store throughout the summer.
These reductions come on items and categories that our customers have said are some of the most important on their shopping lists. As part of the reductions, JEWEL-OSCO is also introducing a new marketing campaign titled “Gotta Love Lower Prices” that will begin running in advertising creative and television and radio spots beginning next week.
These lower prices are not a short-term promotion, or a sales price that will change with the next circular release. Our customers have been asking for lower prices on the items they buy most, and beginning Thursday, we’re proud to be able to offer new pricing on thousands of items.”
My first reaction to this announcement? Skepticism. I am sure that many of you feel the same way. When I questioned Supervalu about my concerns, not only were they understanding, but they were apologetic. They know that the last few years have not been the best (who remembers when the price of eggs fell to $.99… then crept up to $1.29… then crept up…) and they have some exciting plans in store for us. They assured me that this summer is going to be a good one, starting with their Gotta Love Lower Prices rollout. Here’s hoping they’re right!
