I will admit it – I’d never heard of Instructions Not Included before Lionsgate Entertainment mentioned it to me, but as a movie buff I was game! This is a bilingual film that has an interesting premise:
“Directed by and starring Mexico’s wildly popular Eugenio Derbez, the movie made history by becoming the most successful Spanish-language film ever released in the U.S. with a domestic box office of over $44 million. A “sweet, funny and poignant comedy” (Los Angeles Times), Instructions Not Included tells the story of a confirmed bachelor (Derbez) who must suddenly take on responsibility for the daughter he never knew he had. The film also stars Jessica Lindsey (Now You See Me), Alessandra Rosaldo (TV’s “Ni Contigo Ni Sin Ti”) and introduces Loreto Peralta as Derbez’s “adorable pint-sized co-star” (Los Angeles Times).”
When I first put the DVD in and hunkered down for a viewing, I was a little turned off. The first five minutes were all about escapades that the main character (Valentín) had with various women. That in and of itself didn’t bother me – it was the fake wig and over accentuated faces that he was making that was bizarre. And yet, I kept watching. When Valentín first finds out about his daughter, the film seems to really find it’s footing. The middle of the movie was entertaining and, unlike MANY other films, it kept going on a solid incline. By the end of the movie (which you are truly shocked by), I was so emotionally involved that I was in tears. Give this movie a chance as you would with a book. It sometimes takes a few pages to figure out what’s going on, but by the end you’re up late on the bathroom floor hoping that no one bothers you while you read. This movie is the same way. Every 10 minutes seems to get better and more interesting. Because of that I am not going to go into many details, but trust me. You’re going to dig it!
To get everyone excited about the release of this new film, I am giving one lucky winner a copy of the Instructions Not Included DVD!
