Are you having a garage sale this summer? Many of us are! But how do you publicize in order to really get the word out? I asked my Facebook Fans that question and here are some of the great ideas they came up with:
Post It! Both Misty and Hannah suggested listing your event on Craig’s List. Include pictures if you can! This is a great option that will reach a lot of people. Plus, if they’re interested in something they see, they can contact you early and possibly make an offer!
You could also consider listing your sale on something like Garage Sales Tracker. They are a great and free option for letting people know about your sale.
App It! Karen says that there is an iPhone App for garage sales!
Publish It! Susan suggested publishing your sale in the newspaper. I would choose both the largest newspaper in your area (i.e. the Tribune in Chicago) and your neighborhood paper.
Hang It! Stephanie suggested hanging signs. Make sure to put up flyers in your local grocery stores or in common areas that allow public advertising.
Point To It! Pitch some laminated flyers onto the corners of the streets around your neighborhood by attaching them to some wood, plastic or other sturdy material. Put an arrow on that sign along with the house number. People off the street need to know where to go and it’s always better if you make it easy for them. Also, think about putting signs on the back window of your parked car so that passersby can see it before they reach you!
Research It! I would also suggest typing the name of your city and garage sale into Google (or Swagbucks!). You’ll likely get a few options for local online listings!
If you’re in the Chicagoland area and would like to come to my multi-family garage sale, I’d love to meet you! You can read our Craig’s List listing to get more information. This is NOT at my house, just the home of a wonderful person who allows us to use her garage for the entire day.
Hope to see you and good luck with your sale!
