Do you remember a few years ago when the government put together a website to help people find the money that was owed to them? In Illinois it’s called Cash Dash, but you can find all of the other participating states listed here.
Anyway, this money is yours and can be waiting for you from anywhere: wages that were never collected, overpayment on a bill, funds from a settlement – anywhere. The site is EXTREMELY easy to use and I can verify that it is legitimate. I got a check for myself and my husband (each separately) a few years ago. Yesterday I looked again and in about three minutes found money owed to both of my grandmothers, my father, my brother, and my aunt.
The information given to you after the search is the last “known” address (that you will have to prove residency of) and the general amount owed. The monetary ranges are “below $10,” “$10-$100,” and “over $100.” Other than that, you will have to wait until you get your check to find out when, where from, and how much you are collecting.
Once you are on the site, search for yourself or your relatives. After you have found your name, fill out this form which will also have to be signed by a notary. There are also ways listed to collect for family members who have passed away.
There are a few steps that you will have to take to get the money that is owed to you, but it is worth it! It is your money after all, and don’t we all need a little extra right now?
