I am so excited that the weather has been great even though we’re almost in October! I don’t know about you, but in Chicago, we can literally have snowstorms and heat strokes taking place in the same month! That being said, the worst we’ve seen is 98 degrees and 55 during the day in the same week. We all got sick, but that’s life! The funniest thing about all of this though is that rain or shine, my kids are asking for popsicles. They are not as picky as I am, but I will admit that I give in to one myself every once in awhile!
I recently had the chance to try out Edy’s Outshine Bars. These are branded as Dreyer’s in some areas, but in Chicago we carry Edy’s. Now I will tell you that even though we’ve seen great coupons for the Outshine bars, I never bought any. We had a decent stock of popsicles, so I figured I didn’t need any more. I think I chose poorly!
I was given the Strawberry, Pomegranate, Coconut Waters with Pineapple and Coconut Waters with Banana to try. My kids went crazy for the Strawberry and Pomegranate. They were very flavorful and had bits of fruit in them. I was allowed to taste each one, but since they loved them (and I like coconut), I kept most of the Strawberry and Pomgegranate for them. How do I know that they had pieces of fruit in them when I only tasted a bit? I saw them when I found the bottom portion of my daughter’s uneaten, melted popsicle on the table. That was fun! And for the record, she didn’t abandon it because it wasn’t good (she had another the next day!), she put it down when a friend invited her to play outside. Ah, the life of a mommy!
I tried both of the Coconut varieties. I absolutely loved the Coconut with Pineapple. It had bits of pineapple throughout which made for a tangy treat with each one. And while the coconut is frozen into a flavorful, watery shell, it’s not overwhelming and reminded me of sweetened coconut water. It was really good.
The one flavor I wasn’t as crazy about was the Coconut Banana. It was designed similarly to the Pineapple, but for some reason the banana bits weren’t as much of a treat. They were ripe and the flavor was there, but I think it just wasn’t for me. I don’t tend to be a huge banana person (unless it’s something like banana bread), but if you are, you might want to check it out.
