You may be familiar with Saffron Road’s frozen food, but did you know that they also make snacks? Their bags of Crunchy Chickpeas are made with Organic Chickpeas, Verified Non-GMO, Gluten-Free and as with their other products, distributed by The American Halal Company Inc. I mention that in particular because I have several friends who keep Halal and I know that they sometimes have trouble finding foods just as someone who is gluten-free has trouble. These are snacks that fit both needs!
The two flavors of Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas that I got to try were the Chipotle and Korean BBQ varieties.
- Korean BBQ: The Korean BBQ Crunchy Chickpeas contain the perfect combination of sweet and spicy flavoring. The organic chickpeas combine with a Korean bulgogi marinade, which consists of soy sauce, pear juice, sesame oil, garlic and red pepper, to create a powerful taste.
- Chipotle: Chipotles are made with patience by smoking-dry jalapeño peppers. Saffron Road’s Chipotle Crunchy Chickpeas deliver a kick of Mexican heat with each bite providing consumers with the perfect guilt-free snacking solution packed with flavor.
My husband tried them both flavors with me and we were both immediate fans. These are “pop-em-in-your-mouth” kind of snacks (in the same way that popcorn is) that have a savory flavor and a light after-taste. I far preferred the Chipotle and my husband far preferred the Korean BBQ, but I can’t quite tell you why. We both enjoyed both flavors, but we clearly had our favorites. Neither is spicy, but they both have a lot of flavor. You could easily have a bag next to you while working or watching TV and find it empty an hour later. Think of it as a replacement for popcorn or chips, but seemingly healthier!
