Today was my son’s first day of preschool! So while he stayed to learn and play, I thought I’d stop at Jewel and do the cereal/frozen vegetable shop I’d been wanting to do all weekend.
While my daughter munched on goldfish, I stopped by the frozen vegetables to grab a few, and got an awesome surprise. There is a double dip on General Mills/Green Giant!!
The deal with Green Giant is Buy any 3 veggies in a bag, Get $1 CAT. The GM promotion requires $20 purchase of participating products, Get $5.
SO, let’s say you buy 9 veggies (which will ring at $19.80 shelf price, but only $9 out of pocket) plus one other thing to bump you over the $20 mark (or another veggie). You will receive $5 CAT for GM, plus $1 for every 3 boxes of veggies you get. The scenario above will give you $8 in CAT’s back. If you use coupons, this could be a moneymaker, free, or cost only a bit depending on what you use and what your extra product is. My list of coupon matches are here.
Here’s what I did today
Transaction #1
9 Green Giant Boxed Veggies $1 each
1 Cheerios Chex Mix $1.67
I used
4 $.50/2 Green Giant
1 $.50 Chex Mix
1 $5 CAT from previous purchase
Final Price: $3.40
Got back $8 CAT’s ($5 General Mills, $3 Green Giant)
Transaction #2 (a different store)
4 Lucky Charms
2 Golden Grahams
3 Green Giant veggies
I used
3 $1/2 General Mills Cereal
(I was out of the boxed veggie coupons – bummer!)
$5 CAT from previous purchase
Final Price: $7.34
Got back $6 CAT ($5 for GM, $1 from Green Giant)
In the end this all cost me $6.74.
*One note – I had other CAT’s that I was going to use for the second transaction, but they wouldn’t scan. The very nice cashier was going to enter them in manually, but from previous experience I know this will cancel my CAT from coming. The machine reads the totals differently when they are entered in as “Grocery.” So do yourself a favor if this happens, save the CAT’s for another day when you aren’t doing a different CAT deal.*
