Have you heard of Bananagrams? I first heard about them last year at a blogging conference. Bananagrams is a game that is like a combination between Scrabble and Dominoes. The cute Banana container comes with tons of little tiles with letters on them and your goal is to create words with what you have. They are VERY easy to pack up and take with you, so they’re perfect for vacations or outings. I saw a family playing at the airport while waiting for a flight!
When I first saw them I thought that they would be great for kids a little older than mine, but then I ran into them again at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair. That’s where I learned that they have tons of other options available for littler kids! Fruitominoes (which my kids LOVE) is for smaller children, where each tile has groups of fruit pictured. You can use them to teach numbers, fruit, colors, matching or play a standard dominoes (Fruitominoes!) game.
If you’re looking for something in the middle, be sure to check out Pairs In Pears (a word construction race game for ages 6 and up) and Appletters (a version of Bananagrams younger kids with three levels of play)!
