If you are in the Chicagoland area and are looking for a Children’s Theater, I have a real treat for you. I have been taking my kids to performances by The Chicago Kids Company for about four years now. I started taking my son around 20 months old (we’ve seen Cinderella, Pinocchio, Three Bears) and my 2-year old daughter just saw her first performance.
This company chooses well known fairy tales and spins them into very cute, one hour musicals for children. All of the characters are funny (including the “bad guys”) and everyone learns a lesson at the end of the show. We just went to see a performance of Rapunzel on a field trip with my son’s school and at the end of the show, the mean witch learned to forgive other people – then everyone hugged and danced. You also get to meet and take pictures with the cast after the show is over. It’s perfect for children!
Most of the performances at The Chicago Kids Company start at 10:30AM during the week (perfect for nappers!) and 1PM on Saturdays. There are five theater locations with performances, but two that have far more performances than the others – one on the North Side (5900 W. Belmont) and one of the South Side (W. 111th and S. Western). A single ticket is $10 and there are group rates available. This is a great option for a playgroup, pre-school, kindergarten class, home-school group, camp group or just you and your kids. Childhood is the best time to introduce your kids to theater and Chicago is definitely to the place to do it!
To help get your children excited about the theater, The Chicago Kids Company is giving away a set of four tickets to two lucky Couponing For 4 readers!
