And so it begins. Next week (9/16/12) marks a new era in the life of Walgreens. They are introducing Balance Rewards! You can register at any time for free, but if you register before 9/16, you will be entered to win 1,000,000 points. They are not cutting out Register Rewards altogether (for now at least), but they are bringing in their new points system. Here is how it will work:
5,000 points = $5
10,000 points = $10
18,000 points = $20
30,000 points = $35
40,000 points = $50
-You will be able to earn points by purchasing meds through point offers in-store or online (you will see these in the ad), by participating in Walk With Walgreens or other ways that they may come up with.
-Points cannot be used for alcohol, gift cards, prescription co-pays, stamps, prepaid cards, dairy or tobacco.
-Bonus points expire after 36 months from date of earning or after 6 months of no activity.
– Just like Register Rewards for the same product, you cannot use points on a purchase that yields points. So if you purchase Item X with 5,000 points, you will not get any points from it whether it was supposed to give points or not. Don’t waste your points on other points items!
– Coupons will have no effect on the earning of points. Use all the coupons that you want and you will still earn the same amount of points promised.
All in all, this is going to take some getting used to for all of us. It won’t be as easy to get things for free or roll one transaction into another (you can’t roll points, as I mentioned above), so hopefully we’ll see some silver linings as time goes on.
