*Note – I was given a Cobra JumPack 7500 for review. All statements and opinions are my own.
I think that anyone who knows me knows that I know nothing about cars. I can tell you the color of a car and whether it’s boxy looking or curvy, but that’s about it. Occasionally I can also tell you the brand of car if I know the symbol (BMW, Mercedes and Honda are different enough that I can tell them apart!), but that’s about it. I appreciate that cars can get me from point A to point B and expect them to “just work” when I take care of them (oil changes, check-ups, etc). So when something goes wrong, let’s just say that I’m somewhat unprepared to come up with a fix.
I was recently introduced to the Cobra JumPack at a conference and it absolutely piqued my interest. The gentleman who explained it to me said that not only is this compact box and the included cables all that you need to jump a car, but that it won’t hurt your car if you hook it up wrong! It is easy to store in your car and – should you need it – it also doubles as a mobile device battery pack. This HAD to be too good to be true, right? Not the case!
When the review unit arrived at my home, my husband almost jumped for joy. Here, in this small box, was a device that would keep his wife from blowing up the car if I should ever need to jump it. We took it out of the box and set the unit to charge. The Cobra JumPack 7500 is just a bit smaller than my Samsung smartphone and weighs approximately one and a half times as much. This is a compact unit that you can keep in your glovebox and forget about until you need it. It will fit without issue.
Once the Cobra JumPack was charged, I allowed it to charge my phone. Neither of our cars currently needs a jump, so I wasn’t able to test this feature, but I did have it charge my cell phone – multiple times with energy left over! I allowed my cell to go down to approximately 4% and set it to charge with a USB cable connected to the JumPack. It charged in a few hours and once I ran the battery down again, I set it to charge a second time, which it did. A phenomenal option for car trips, plane trips or any other time where you have multiple devices that need charging. Plus, when you find that the JumPack is running low on energy (which takes quite awhile!), you can use the included plug to attach it to the charging outlet in your car (formerly known as the cigarette lighter area) and recharge! The front of the unit has four dots that either show a blue light or no light at all. The number of blue lights tells you how much energy you have left.
I really am impressed with this little unit and highly recommend having one. I intend to keep mine charged and in my glovebox at all times, just so that I know that my kids and I are covered when we’re out. No more calling a friend or AAA to give you a jump! You have that ability right in the palm of your hand.
